Surface Sampling

What is surface sampling?

Surface sampling is a method used to test visible mold growth on walls, ceilings, furniture, or other surfaces. Using swabs, our inspectors collect a sample of the suspected mold. This sample is then sent to a certified laboratory to identify the type of mold present. Surface sampling is especially useful for confirming whether visible stains are actually mold and for documenting contamination during real estate transactions or remediation.

Is surface sampling necessary?

Surface sampling isn’t always required, but it can be very useful in certain situations. If there’s visible discoloration or suspected mold growth, surface sampling helps confirm whether it’s actually mold and determines the type. It's especially important when mold identification is needed for health concerns, insurance claims, or legal documentation. While air testing detects airborne spores, surface sampling gives a direct assessment of what’s growing on a specific area.

How much does an surface sampling cost?

• $450- Base Mold Test Package ($500 for commercial buildings & direct insurance billing)

⁃ One mold test (typically direct examination)

⁃ Noninvasive mold inspection in area of concern (not whole home)

⁃ Includes: thermal camera, water meter, bore scope, and hygrometer readings

⁃ Certified Lab results

⁃ Mold Assessment Report

How long does surface sampling testing take?

Inspections typically take 30 minutes up to one hour depending on the size of the home.
