Surface Sampling

What is surface sampling?

Surface sampling is a method used to test visible mold growth on walls, ceilings, furniture, or other surfaces. Using swabs, our inspectors collect a sample of the suspected mold. This sample is then sent to a certified laboratory to identify the type of mold present. Surface sampling is especially useful for confirming whether visible stains are actually mold and for documenting contamination during real estate transactions or remediation.

Is surface sampling necessary?

Surface sampling isn’t always required, but it can be very useful in certain situations. If there’s visible discoloration or suspected mold growth, surface sampling helps confirm whether it’s actually mold and determines the type. It's especially important when mold identification is needed for health concerns, insurance claims, or legal documentation. While air testing detects airborne spores, surface sampling gives a direct assessment of what’s growing on a specific area.
